Who you are agreeing with
SlateTale is run by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [COMPANY NUMBER, IF ANY], at [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. You can reach a person at [SUPPORT EMAIL].
Who may use it
You need to be eighteen or over, and you set it up on behalf of a child in your care. The account is yours: you choose what is taught, you can read everything it holds, and you can delete it. A child does not have their own account and cannot make one.
What it does
A tutor that talks and draws on a shared whiteboard, and a storyteller when the lesson is done. It is a thing to learn with, not a school, not a qualification, and not a substitute for one.
What it does not promise
The tutor is built on a language model, and language models get things wrong. The app checks what it can — the arithmetic it says out loud, whether the picture matches the number, whether a question can actually be answered — and those checks catch a great deal, but they do not make it right every time. Read over your child's shoulder now and then. Nothing here should be relied on as fact without checking, and it is not advice of any kind: not medical, legal, financial or educational assessment.
What it costs
There is a free trial of 14 days and no card is needed to start one. A trial runs a couple of lessons a day, which is enough to find out whether this suits your child; a subscription lifts that. After that a subscription is US$12 a month, or US$99 a year, and it renews on its own until you stop it. The price you pay is the one shown at the checkout; if it ever changes we will tell you before it applies to you, and you can cancel first.
Payments are taken by Stripe. Your card details go to them and never to us — we are told that a payment worked, when the next one is due, and nothing else.
Cancelling, and getting money back
You can cancel at any time from the account footer, which takes you to Stripe's own page. Cancelling stops the next payment. It does not delete anything: the lessons, the stories and the record stay where they are and you can still read them.
Because this is a digital service that starts as soon as you subscribe, you agree to it starting straight away and give up the fourteen-day right to change your mind that would otherwise apply. That said — if something is wrong, or it plainly has not worked, write to [SUPPORT EMAIL] and we will sort it out. We would rather refund somebody than argue with them.
Using it fairly
Do not use it to make anything illegal, cruel, or meant to deceive; do not try to get at other people's accounts; and do not resell it. The daily limits exist so one runaway browser tab cannot spend a fortune — they are generous enough that a real lesson never meets them.
Your child's data
Set out in full in the privacy notice. In short: a nickname, a rough age, what they answer, and short notes on what they found easy. Never their real name, birthday, school, address, photo or voice — and the tutor is never told your child's name.
Ending it
You can delete a child or the whole account whenever you like, from the child's settings. That removes it, and it cannot be undone. We may close an account that is being used against these terms, and will say why.
The boring necessary part
The service is provided as it is. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you have paid in the twelve months before the claim. These terms are governed by the law of [JURISDICTION].
